On Saturday, Sept. 18, the Kenosha Symphony Youth Scholarship Auditions were held at Bradford High School. Established to provide recognition to the high musical achievement of area high school students, the Kenosha Symphony Youth Scholarship Auditions have taken place annually since 1964.
This year, a total of $500.00 in cash awards was presented. Receiving a $100.00 scholarship on trumpet was Tremper senior Jacinda R.; receiving a $150.00 scholarship on flute is Haley C., a senior at Tremper High School; and, receiving a $250.00 scholarship on viola is Nicholas M. Nicholas will also be the featured soloist at the Kenosha Symphony Youth Concerts being held on Friday, October 8, 2010 in the Reuther High School Auditorium at 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. This free concert is presented to 5th grade students throughout Kenosha County and provides many of these students with their first exposure to a live symphony concert.
These auditions are a collaborative effort between the Kenosha Symphony Association and Kenosha Unified School District’s Department of Fine Arts. In addition to the monetary award, the overall winner of these auditions also earns the distinguished honor of being the featured soloist with the Kenosha Symphony Orchestra during its annual Youth Concerts.
