Council rejects mayor’s appointment of Bruce McCurdy to Redevelopment Authority

The Kenosha Common Council rejected Mayor Keith Bosman’s appointment of Bruce McCurdy to the city’s Redevelopment Authority in a 9-to-8 vote Monday.

Alderman David Bogdala made the motion to reject the appointment based on a statement he said McCurdy made about the Plan Commission not being accountable to anyone.

“I have a whole host of reasons why  I would not be in favor of this appointment,” Bogdala said. “Ninety-nine times out of 100 I agree with the mayor and his appointments.”

McCurdy said he did not make the statement Bogdala objected to, though he acknowledged that he was at the meeting where it was said.

McCurdy has served on various city commissions and committees since 1978.

Bosman defended McCurdy’s appointment, saying he had worked with McCurdy in various capacities over the years and was confident in his suitability for the authority post.

“What we have is a guy who put in a lot of time,” Bosman said.

The redevelopment authority works on “blight elimination, slum clearance and urban renewal program, and projects within the city,” according to the city’s website.

The council did approve Bosman’s appointment of Eric Migrin to the Redevelopment Authority.
