Serious injuries from car-tow truck crash

The driver of a car that collided with a backing town truck in Somers Wednesday has been moved out of critical care.

According to a Sheriff’s Department press release, the crash was reported a little after noon, Wednesday. Deputies responded to the 5800 block of Highway KR, just west of Green Bay Road. They found that a blue 2003 Ford Focus had been traveling eastbound where a flatbed tow truck owned by Kenosha towing company was backing out of a driveway. There were no skid marks left by the Ford, which was reported to have swerved prior to impact with the rear portion of the truck. A fire initially developed but the tow truck driver was reported to have extinguished the small fire. The driver of the car, Jason Maier, 30, of Sturtevant was wearing his seatbelt and the vehicle’s Supplemental Restraint System Airbags did deploy. Maier had to be extricated from the car as he was entrapped for a short time. He was taken by Flight for Life medical transport helicopter to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee. The truck driver volunteered to give blood samples and was taken to Aurora Hospital for that procedure. Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department deputies and detectives are conducting a crash investigation at this time. Maier was moved out of critical care Thursday and has no life threatening injuries.
