A Kenosha man died early Sunday morning after apparently being hit by a car while he was riding a bicycle.
According to a news release from the Pleasant Prairie Police Department:
Pleasant Prairie Police were notified of a motor vehicle crash involving a bicycle in the area of CTH H and Springbrook Road in the Village of Pleasant Prairie at 12:51 A.M. Sunday. Police were notified by a driver who called 911 and said that she had hit something but did not know what. The caller, who continued to drive north from the accident scene, was unable to tell dispatchers where she was until she reached the intersection of CTH H and STH 165. Officers initially responded there and found the car and driver at that location and then found the bicyclist laying in the roadway approximately 3/4 miles south. The initial impact appears to have occurred several hundred feet south of there. The victim, a 21 year old Kenosha man was pronounced dead at the scene by Pleasant Prairie Paramedics. The driver of the car, Quashae D. Taylor, 18 of Kenosha was not injured. She was the lone occupant. Taylor told police that she had been driving north and that she closed her eyes for a second. While her eyes were closed, Taylor said she heard a loud bang and when she opened them her windshield was smashed. She also told police that she had received a cell phone call at about the time of the accident. Taylor was taken into custody and is being held at the Kenosha County Jail on a charge of homicide by negligent use of a motor vehicle. At this time there is no indication that alcohol was a factor. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family members. Pleasant Prairie Police Officers continue to investigate.
