Police identify bicyclist killed in crash

Pleasant Prairie Police have released the identity of a bicyclist who was struck and killed in an early morning accident on Sunday, Aug. 7.

Devin J. Kunich, 21, of Kenosha, had been riding his bicycle north on CTH H in the area of Springbrook Road just before 1 a.m. when he was struck from behind by a car driven by Quashae D. Taylor, 18, of Kenosha.

Kunich was getting ready to start his third college class and loved his job at the Bristol Renaissance Faire, said Gary Kunich, Devin’s father.

From Pleasant Prairie police:

An investigation has revealed that Kunich was carried several hundred feet north of the accident scene before landing in the roadway. Taylor, who called 911 to report that she had hit something, told 911 dispatchers that she did not know where she was and finally stopped her vehicle at CTH H and STH 165, about a mile north of the accident scene. Police were unable to find lighting on Kunich’s bicycle, and the cyclist was dressed in dark clothing at the time of the accident. The bike was equipped with reflectors. Kunich was not wearing a bike helmet. Taylor was taken into custody pending charges of homicide by negligent use of a motor vehicle. She told police that she had her eyes closed at the time of the crash and also said that she received a cell phone call at about the same time. She is being held at the Kenosha County Jail. Police continue to investigate.

I knew Devin and worked with him for two years at Bristol. He was a close personal friend and he will be missed. Many people at Faire have started a sort of memorial at his ride the Black Swan in the form of flowers and have all extended their condolences and sympathies. He had a personality that was one of a kind and I extend my condolences to his family.
