Optimist Club’s annual Great Kenosha Pizza Bake-Off 2012 coverage

The smell of pizza filled the air at the Kenosha Area Noon Optimist Club’s annual Great Kenosha Pizza Bake-Off Sunday evening at the UAW Local 72 headquarters, Kenosha.

Proceeds from the event benefited the club and the Octagon Club at Tremper High School, both of whom support youth programs in Kenosha. Attendees sampled pizzas served from different vendors and voted for their favorite. There also was a panel of celebrity judges that selected a winner in two specialty pizza categories — one for chain restaurants and one for local restaurants. This year’s panel — with a chief theme — was made up of Chief Executive Officer of the Boys and Girls Club of Kenosha Wally Graffen, Sheriff David Beth, Kenosha Chief Of Police John Morrissey, Kenosha Fire Chief John Thomsen, Pleasant Prairie Chief of Fire and Rescue Chief Doug McElmury, and “Chief DJ,” Bill Lawrence.

There also was a silent auction area, 50/50 raffle, live entertainment, and visits from Miss Kenosha, Rebbeca Gaertner, and the Brewers’ Mascots, the Famous Klement’s Racing Sausages.

Participating restaurants, which donated all of their food, were:

  • Baker’s Street.
  • Charcoal Grill.
  • Jimano’s.
  • Tenuta’s.
  • Nick-N-Willy’s.
  • The Brat Stop.
  • Papa Murphy’s.
  • Luigi’s.
  • Pazzo.
  • Valeo’s.
