A word from our sponsors: Big 3 Tripleheader kicks off at Wilmot Raceway this Saturday
Three of Wisconsin’s biggest dirt track special events are taking place at the Wilmot Raceway, in three consecutive weeks: Saturday June 9, Father’s Day, Sunday, June 17, and Saturday, June 23.
This Saturday, June 9, features a visit by the region’s premier Sprint Car touring series, The Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprints. The winged 900 horsepower open wheel rockets are the fastest cars in dirt track racing. A field of over 30 are expected. Additionally, invitational events for all of Wilmot Raceway’s regular weekly classes are included, which should produce an overall car count of over 100. The IRA Outlaws will run a complete show, with the Modifieds, Street Stocks, Mini Sprints, and 4 Cylinder classes competing in Semi & Feature events only, with the top several in each division’s point standings being locked into their A-main. The remaining cars will run a qualifying race (or semi feature) to complete their respective A-main starting line-up. A redraw will be used to determine the invert with each division’s current point leader pulling the invert pill. This format is being utilized to give all of Wilmot’s classes the opportunity to race during this special event. Warm up’s begin at 6 pm, followed by IRA qualifying, and racing to begin at approximately 7 pm.
On Sunday Night of Father’s Day, the highly anticipated return of the UMP Late Model Stock Car Summer Nationals Hell Tour roars into Wilmot Raceway. The unique tour featuring several of the sports national stars hits Wilmot for night number 5 of the 30 consecutive race night tour, yes 30 straight race nights of racing! Joining the Late Models will be the inaugural event of the recently formed Badger Mod Tour, which is expected to draw near 50 of the best Modifieds throughout the state to compete in their first ever showdown, as the top Modified teams representing several Wisconsin tracks have pre-entered for this event. This show will start an hour earlier than normal due to it’s taking place on a Sunday night.
Then, the Big 3 Tripleheader concludes on Saturday night, June 23, with a rare Wisconsin appearance of the USAC Amsoil National Sprint Series. These non-wing Sprints have not competed at Wilmot in nearly 20 years. USAC national stars like Levi Jones (driving for NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart), Indy 500 starter Bryan Clauson, Tracy Hines, Dave Darland, and many more, plus some local flavor, too, as Wilmot Sprint Champ Tommy Sexton plans on taking off his wing for this very special event. Joining the USAC Sprints will be the Mini Sprints, and another Wilmot class in Invitational form.
The best dirt track racing of the Summer will be at Wilmot Raceway, June 9, 17, and 23 as the Big 3 Tripleheader storms in. Come Feel The Thunder!
