Kenosha pops concert band joined by Navy band
At tonight’s third week of the 90th season of the Kenosha Pops Concert Band, the theme was “Themes Like Old Time: An Evening of Standards and Big Band Favorites from Yesteryear.” The guest vocalist was Lou Rugani.
The U.S. Navy Band Great Lakes performed a one-hour program starting at 6:30 pm. The bands then combined for a grand finale performance of John Philip Sousa’s “The Stars and Stripes Forever,” with 100 musicians on stage. Click below for a snippet of that performance. (The writer apologizes for the woman who kept standing up and moving in front of her as she was videotaping.)
The Kenosha Pops Concert Band performs at 7 p.m. on Wednesday nights at the band shell in Pennoyer Park, at Seventh Avenue and 35th Street along the lakefront. This Sunday, there will be a special concert featuring Miss America, Kenosha’s own Laura Kaeppeler. And, next Wednesday, on the fourth of July, the venue moves to Wolfenbuttel Park for a 7 p.m. patriotic concert before the fireworks.
