Last “Future of Downtown Kenosha” workshop is Tuesday

The third and final community workshop focused on the future of Downtown Kenosha is scheduled for Tuesday, July 17, culminating months of input from a variety of stakeholders. The session will be from 7  to 9:00 p.m. at the Kenosha Public Museum, 5500 First Avenue. The workshop will build off the previous two workshops and present for review a refined draft master plan/land use strategy for downtown Kenosha with supporting analysis.

During the workshop, attendees will have an opportunity to provide feedback and thoughts in interactive small groups. The Lakota Group has been commissioned by KABA, in conjunction with the City of Kenosha, to develop an investment strategy that will serve as a blueprint for the revitalization of Kenosha’s Downtown. About 200 people attended the second community workshop, held on May 24, at the Rhode Center for the Arts.

“We have been very pleased with the success of the first two workshops,” said Todd Battle, KABA President. “They have been well attended and citizens have been passionate in communicating what they believe ought to be our top priorities.  We are not going through the motions here, and neither have citizens. The feedback we’ve received so far has helped guide and shape directions that we ought to go in.”

KABA hired The Lakota Group to serve as the lead consultant on the project. Lakota has engaged with companies that have expertise in planning, urban design, landscape architecture, community relations, real estate analysis, transportation engineering, and environmental engineering and analysis. The extensive public planning process is well on its way to achieving its goal of engaging the community, creating a clear and cohesive vision for downtown development, and establishing priorities and an implementation plan to direct future initiatives. The efforts are consistent with the community’s economic development plan, which calls for increased focus on downtown development.
