Grill Games on Friday and Saturday in Kenosha

The annual Grill Games BBQ Competition & Lakefront Festival is the ultimate destination for all ages.  This year,  the games will be extended to two fun-filled days with free admission!  Sponsored by the Kenosha Area Chamber of Commerce, this two-day event includes a Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS)-sanctioned competition, music festival, carnival, and craft fair, as well as historic streetcar rides to and from the event grounds.

Hours are:  Friday, from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

The Grill Games’ main attraction is a KCBS-sanctioned BBQ competition featuring teams from around the region competing for $9,000 in prizes and trophies. “It is with great excitement that in 2012 we announce additional competitions following the KCBS BBQ competition that will include Dessert, Best of Grill Games, Anything Goes, and People’s Choice competitions. These competitions are aimed at increasing attendee participation in the festivities,” said Lou Molitor, Kenosha Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director.

The featured bands on the main stage include: The Bounty Hunters, a southern rock and cover band; The Sweet Tarts, a high-energy dance band; TRIP, a classic rock band; Smokin’ Gunz, a Chicago country rock band; and The Love Monkeys, a Milwaukee native rock-pop-reggae-country band. The second stage will feature local bands. The schedule is available by clicking here:  Music Schedule.

The family activity area will feature a carnival and more than 40 regional and local arts and crafts vendors. Popular BBQ food will be available for purchase from various food vendors along with adult and soft drink beverages.

The financial proceeds of Grill Games 2012 help support Kenosha County youth and child abuse prevention programs, including Women and Children’s Horizons, Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha, and Kenosha Area Chamber of Commerce scholarship programs.

Prove your Grilling Skills! Grill Games is looking for community members who want to compete in the team grill games event as there are still open spots to join the Grill Games.  The Kenosha News is sponsoring the community competition and giving away a $500 cash prize and gas grill to Kenosha’s best grill master. Each team will be responsible for its grilling supplies. Those supplies include: a charcoal grill, wood, utensils for grilling, seasonings and ingredients, coolers, and lawn chairs.
