Units responding to gas line break at courthouse
At 10:29 a.m., Kenosha Fire Department units are responding to the Kenosha County Courthouse for a report of a gas line break.
Command personnel on the scene reports that line involved is a one-inch main. He is calling for the courthouse to be evacuated to the north.
UPDATE 10:32 a.m. — Transit department being called to stop trolley from circling around the building.
UPDATE 10:34 a.m. — Fire personnel setting up for an attempt to crimp the line.
UPDATE 10:35 p.m. — Command says reports of gas smell in building beginning to come in.
UPDATE 10:36 p.m. — Command seeking more police officers to set up a better perimeter.
UPDATE 10:39 a.m. — We Energies on scene. Firefighters and utility crew approaching break to attempt crimping.
UPDATE 10:43 a.m. — Building evacuated.
UPDATE 10:48 a.m. — Gas has been “slowed down and almost shut off,” command reports.
UPDATE 10:55 a.m. — Gas completely shut off, command reports. Units beginning to clear the scene.
UPDATE 11:40 a.m. — The break occurred as a result of landscaping work related to the courthouse’s rehabilitation, reports Sgt. Bill Beth, Sheriff’s Department spokesman. People were let back into the courthouse a little after 11 a.m.
