Suspect in Somers murder case may be charged on Thursday

A suspect being held in the Kenosha County Jail since August is expected to be charged in Circuit Court tomorrow  in the case of a woman whose body was found in a Somers cemetery on August 19th.

KenoWi does not identify suspects until they have been formally charged.  According to a Sheriff’s Department statement, the suspect was a known associate of the victim, Lisa Mezera. The suspect, a 52-year-old man from Kenosha, has been in custody since August 20th, the day after the discovery of the victim’s body. He was able to be held in custody on probation and parole violations.

“This afforded time for the Wisconsin Department of Justice Crime Laboratory to process the evidence in this case,” said a statement released by Sgt. Bill Beth, Sheriff’s Department spokesman. “The Crime Lab made Kenosha County’s case a top priority and has been working on processing the evidence from this case over the past several weeks. Sheriff David Beth is grateful to the Crime Lab for the effort put forth on behalf of our community.”

The suspect is expected to be charged with 1st degree intentional homicide, Sgt. Beth said.

“The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department appreciates the patience of Lisa Mezera’s family and the residents of Kenosha County during the investigation of this case,” the statement concluded.
