Free museum program
Later on today, at 1 pm, there will be a program at the Civil War Museum, 5400 First Avenue, entitled, “Caroline Quarlls: My Independence Day.” In 1842, 16-year-old Caroline, a light-skinned slave from St. Louis, escaped to Canada. This is a live first-person theatrical performance based on the letters from Quarlls to Mr. Lyman Goodnow who escorted her from Wisconsin to Canada. Enjoy the professional performance, ask Quarlls questions of her experiences, and have your photo taken with her. This program is free and open to the public.
