Because of the work of Alderperson Rocco LaMacchia, who works at St. Catherine’s Hospital, affiliated with the United Hospital System, local museums and libraries have also been designated as cooling centers, in addition to area hospitals. According to LaMacchia, there was a patient who was very close to dying because they couldn’t get her to a cooling center near enough to her home. (She lived very close to the museum.) His work with the Wisconsin Health Department designated these public facilities as cooling centers, also. The museums and libraries had already been designated as cooling centers in other states, but not in Wisconsin.
